The Queen Anne’s Revenge is known for being the ship of the notorious pirate Blackbeard. Before the ship was captured by Blackbeard and his crew, it was a French slave ship called La Concorde. Rick Lawrence and Mark Wilde-Ramsing (2016) wrote, “The prominent French merchant, Rene Montaudoin, owned the ship, which operated out of the port of Nantes. French records recount three slave trading expeditions of Montaudoin's La Concorde; one in 1713, a second in 1715, and the third and final voyage in 1717. Unfortunately, it's unclear as to how Montaudoin acquired La Concorde or the date and place of the ship's construction.” The ship sank when it was grounded on the ocean bar and was abandoned. The first dive to the Queen Anne’s Revenge was in 1997 and by 2012, 13 cannons had been found. Rick Lawrence and Mark Wilde-Ramsing (2016) wrote, “On November 21, 1996, a search team from the private research firm Intersal, Inc., operating under a permit from the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources found a cluster of cannon and anchors on the seabed near historic Beaufort Inlet.” Very little is know about Blackbeard himself, one thing is that his real name was Edward Thatch.

About the Artifacts
The medical supplies that has been recovered from the Queen Anne's Revenge have led some researchers to believe that Blackbeard may not have been as ruthless as they once thought. Some researchers believe that he used this medical equipment to treat his crew.
